Purple carrots are crunchy with a snap-like quality and have a sweet flavor with undertones of celery and parsley. Depending on the variety, some Purple carrots may also have a peppery flavor. In addition to the roots, the leafy tops are also edible and have a fresh, green taste.

Let’s Grow Carrots!

1. Pick a Sunny Spot

Carrots love sunshine! Find a place in your garden or a big pot where the sun shines most of the day.

2. Make the Soil Soft

Carrots need loose, fluffy dirt so they can grow long and straight. Ask a grown-up to help you dig and break up the soil so it’s not hard or rocky.

3. Plant the Seeds

Make tiny lines in the dirt with your finger. Sprinkle carrot seeds into the lines like fairy dust! Then gently cover them with a little bit of soil—just a light sprinkle.

4. Give Them a Drink

Water your seeds gently so the soil is damp but not soaking wet. Keep it moist while they grow—carrots get thirsty!

5. Be Patient and Watch Closely

Carrots take a few weeks to pop up. At first, you’ll see tiny green shoots. That means they’re growing underground! Keep watering and watch them grow.

6. Pull Weeds and Be Kind

Weeds try to steal carrot food! Gently pull out any weeds you see nearby. Be careful not to bother the baby carrots.

7. Time to Harvest!

After about 2–3 months, the tops will be tall and green. Peek at the top of a carrot poking out. If it’s as big as your thumb, it’s time! Grab the green top and gently pull—ta-da! A carrot!

8. Wash and Crunch!

Wash your carrots really well, and now the best part—take a bite! Sweet, crunchy, and grown by YOU!
